A collection of 30 photos by photographer Niels Ackermann.
This collection takes us on a trip to Donbass, to the city of Novhorodske, formerly called New York. A few kilometres from the front line, in the heart of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, they meet the inhabitants, listen to them, watch them, share a little of their daily life. All describe their struggle to continue to live freely on these lands that gave them birth. New York, Ukraine, bills itself as a guide to a city you never expected to visit. Far from the clichés on Eastern Europe, the photos lead us through the city, revealing places ramshackle and surprising and a rich history of the Mennonite tradition of former German settlers.
